Good score for Deane and Anton in betterball Stableford

Scottburgh players have a great week of golf.

So you think that the new R60 Pro V you set off with was expensive especially when it was last seen going head first into the pond? Well spare a thought for the most expensive ball yet to hit the market.

In the US there’s an auction online for golfing memorabilia which includes an Allen Robertson featherie golf ball. The latest offer is $5000 – that’s around R85 000, I don’t think the new owner will be teeing that up for his Saturday betterball.

Wednesday was a betterball Stableford and Deane Jooste didn’t lose a ball as he and partner Anton Visage scored a respectable 40 points to win by one from in form recent retiree Gary Jones and Mike Eley on 39.

Anton had the only 2 club and Mike Hogan again claimed the Stone along with Christo Steynvaart. Keeping it in the family, Mandy Jones won the Friday five pin with 10 points to boost her weekend spending money by R200. Second and winning R100 was Lloyd Trehearne.

Halfway Toyota were the sponsors for Saturday’s combined Stableford. ‘Is my friend on the green or is the fool in the bunker again’ is a common remark often heard.

Gary Jones is no fool as he and partner Graham Brown (who I know lost a ball ) scored 70 points to win by 2 over second placed Leon van Zyl and Spooks who were one ahead of third placed Jason Gilliver and Mikhail van Braken on 67.

Geoff Thommasen found the hidden holes and Deanne Jooste picked up his usual 2 club. Down at the bottom of the list we found Alwyn and Byron Stander who contributed to the Stone. The final match in the matchplay championships was played out and the final winners were Nivash Mahabeer – A division; Tony Moore – B division and Gary Jones – C division. Congratulations.

Wednesday is an Individual Stableford and P&G Construction will be sponsoring the Saturday betterball.

Flyer’s footnote: If you pick up a golfer and hold him close to your ear like a conch shell and listen, you will hear an alibi or tale of woe.
