Vereeniging bowlers vow to return
Local bowlers thanked for their hospitality in hosting Riverside Vereeniging bowlers.
Local bowlers came in for high praise from Desire Stalmann, organiser of the recent Desire’s Casa Villa Challenge.
This involved a team from her home town of Vereeniging, who took on teams from Munster, Port Edward, Banners Rest and Margate.
In fact, Desire also has a home and guest house in Port Edward, hence the idea for the tournament.
The bowls was social, but competitive too, with all thoroughly enjoying it.
It also provided a little boost for the local economy.

“The companionship was wonderful and hospitality fantastic, it was like we had known each other for years,” she said.
“Playing here, on the South Coast, is also something special. The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly and many of the old traditions are still in place, it’s just so nice and enjoyable.”
Desire’s home club’s official name is Vereeniging Riverside, and while that is also the name of a club in Uvongo – Riverside – they did not play them on this occasion.
“Perhaps next year, as we’d really like to make this happen again. It was certainly a week to remember and we look forward to making this an annual event and working on getting other bowling clubs to play.”
