Cheers mate, thanks for the golf
It's always good to catch up with old friends, especially over a game of golf.
Southbroom Golf Club members enjoyed a visit from former members Allen Hooper and son Craig, who’ve lived in Australia for the past 20 years or so.
Allen won the the club champs (strokeplay and matchplay) in the late 90s and Craig most likely would have as well, but tried his hand as a pro instead.
They played in the Friday Chicken Run, where Allen picked up a fowl, as well as in the Saturday competition which was won by Johan Wentzel, Anton Kohrmann, Grant Richards and Grant Richards Jr on 86 points.
Runners-up were John Fox, Anton Leal, Geoff Skelton and Don Osbourn on 85 points.
Craig secured a pro shop voucher for finishing in third with his team comprising David Rush, Gavin Sole and Derek James, on 84 points.
If Gavin had played a bit better they may have won, but he could only manage a gross of 64.
They did at least beat the ‘other’ Hooper fourball, comprising Allen, Gary Purtell, Paul Cole and Phil Verwey.
The competition last Thursday was won by Christer Solgevik, Neill Crossey, Werner Duggan and Bo Bergqvist on 85 points.
Runners-up were Clive Miller, Malcolm Greenland, Bob Carmichael and Rory O’Donnell on 84 points.
Chicken Run: Craig Charlton 21 points, Chris Esterhuizen 17 points, Augi D’Ewes 16 points, Allen Hooper 16 points.
