Gavin Sole favourite for SKZN Open
There are also a few juniors pushing through, including Dian Wilmot, who has shown he can shoot red numbers in big events.
Southbroom Golf Club’s Big Fish – Gavin Sole – will start as the favourite for this Sunday’s Southern KZN Open at Port Shepstone Country Club.
He can hardly argue that tag, having won it three or four times at least, and coming off a 61 at Southbroom not too long ago.
However, he has a number of teammates who may fancy their chances in Jason Gilliver, Matt Sutherland and Jan McDermott.
Then there’s Jean-Marc Bouic who is getting closer to a first win. Graham Fabricius can never be counted out on a course he loves, although he hasn’t played much golf of late.
The tournament will see the return to tournament play of three stalwarts in Robert Mavundla, Victor Mbhele and Patrick Mavundla.
Gavin’s other threats will come in the form of defending champion Leon Naidoo and one of the province’s top players, Bryce Bibby.
There are also a few juniors pushing through, including Dian Wilmot, who has shown he can shoot red numbers in big events.
Hopefully the weather plays the game as KZN tournaments have been thwarted by rain seemingly every time they come down to the South Coast.
There’s a B division, for handicaps 10 and up, with carts permitted for this.
