Peter beats heat at Scottburgh Marathon

The Striders used the race as preparation for their own forthcoming 21.1km champs.

Peter Brino Kumalile has added another title to his impressive list, winning the Scottburgh Half Marathon (21.1km) last Sunday.

He ran in the colours of South Coast Striders and was joined by numerous others from the club on the day.

One of these was Deborah Berridge who won her age group division.

Peter’s time was 1:15:33, with fellow Strider Sanele Wayise third in 1:22:03.

Deborah won the 50 to 59 age group category, finishing 61st overall, with a time of 1:56:19

Mkhondi Mufamadi of South Coast Striders said the marathon was also used as a platform for the club’s forthcoming 21km championship.

Sanele Wayise finished in third place.

He said the race was challenging for the runners, being the first for the year and some of the runners had no time to train during the festive season.

“Another challenge we had was the hot weather, which the runners had to brave,” said Mufamadi.

He said the club was very proud of all the members and congratulates them on their performances.
