Sole declared champion after winner, runner-up disqualified

The rankings will be adjusted accordingly.

Gavin Sole (Southbroom GC) has been declared winner of the Southern KwaZulu-Natal Open, which was held at Port Shepstone Country Club on December 4 last year.

This comes as a result of the winner and runner-up being disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard.

Video footage which came to light after the event showed that the winner, Victor Mbhele (Port Shepstone CC), had made a four on the 14th in the afternoon, but signed for a three, marked by playing partner Patrick Mavundla (Port Shepstone CC).

Victor had returned scores of 69 and 70, with Patrick carding 70 and 70 to take the top two spots. Drawn at the front of the field, they played as a two-ball when their third failed to arrive.

Gavin was third one behind Patrick, on scores of 68 and 73. He was like a bear with a sore head after the round as he finished with three bogeys on the last three holes.

Bryce Bibby (Toti) is now officially the runner-up, with everyone else in the field moving up two places.
