New champions for Margate CC

It was good to see some new faces taking part this year.

Koos Jacobs won the Margate Country Club strokeplay champs on a solid enough score of 78 and 75. It wasn’t his best golf ever, but it was windy, and it was enough to win rather comfortably. Runner-up was Poen Olivier on 166.

The B division champion was Johan Human on 166, by two from Graeme Massam on 168. C division honours went to Mike Jones on 41 points, with Des Potts next on 33 points. Overall nett winner was Frik van Zyl.

Nearest the pins were John Evans (2nd), John Evans (4th), Joe Espach (8th), John Evans (11th) and Elvis Khawula (16th). It’s not often a golfer will win three of the nearest the pins on offer and not make a two-club, but John was able to do just that.

The silver division of the ladies section was won by Wilna Olkers on 181. Dawn Howden won the bronze on 183, while evergreen Lizzy Meyer won the copper on 116 (18 holes). Overall nett went to Maureen Ogilvie on 140.
Best nett Saturday was won by Maureen Ogilvie on 69, two ahead of Dawn Howden. Best nett Sunday was snapped up by Connie McArthur on 71.

Nearest the pin on Sunday: Sandi Johnston (2nd), Sandi Johnston (16th). The KZNLGA Medal and Putt went to Maureen Ogilvie with 26 putts.

The Wednesday Wobblers winners were Dave Morrison, André Henn, Frank Merrill on 86 points. Second place went to Dave Hepworth, Rod O’Farrell and Hans Beilhartz on 79 points. In third place on 77 points were Eddie Gommersol, Bob Weanie and Alan Davies.

The Arthur Tomlinson Floater went to Dave Boyd, Keith Pearson and Johan Human on 67 points.
The regular Thursday competition was won by Robin Shuttleworth on 37 points, counting out Chris Nel. Nearest the pins: Chris Nel (4th), Joe Espach (16th). Two-club: Carlos Pereira (4th), Chris Nel (4th), Gavin van Wyk (2nd), Tony Ford (8th).
