Junior golfer Matthew shows promise at Margate

He played off a 39 handicap and shot 109 gross score, putting out every hole, despite starting with a nine!

The Christmas competition at Margate Country Club (on December 23) was won on 40 points by Det Wichmann.
Everyone knows Det is a solid golfer, but the talking point was the effort produced by junior Matthew Evans, playing in his first competition, who was runner-up on 37 points.

Matthew played off a 39 handicap and shot 109 gross score, putting out every hole, despite starting with a nine!
It would seem the golf bug has bitten the 12-year-old and as he plays more ‘proper’ golf his handicap will no doubt come down very quickly.

Graeme Massam had the only two-club of the day, on the 16th.
Nearest the pins were Craig Rademan (4th) and Kevin Oxenham (11th).

The 100-Club on December 19 was won by Johan Erasmus on 38 points, counting out Robin Shuttleworth.
The Club Meat competition on December 21 was won by Wilna Olkers on 37 points, counting out Frik van Zyl.
Two-clubs were carded by Tony Chrysanthou (4th), Joe Espach (4th), Anika Mulder (11th), Eddy Roux (2nd).
Nearest the pins were Sandi Johnston (2nd) and Anika Mulder (11th).

The Wobblers’ competition on December 20 was won by Marcus Donovan, Wayne Minnaar and André Henn on 101 points.
Runners-up were Johan Human, Frank Merrill and Thys Bothma on 96 points.

The Arthur Tomlinson Floater went to Hans Beilhartz, Daver Hepworth and Bob Weanie on 86 points.
Nearest the pin was Johan Human (4th).
