Golfers embrace hot and humid conditions

The latest Scottburgh Golf Club news and results.

A few upcountry stragglers are still enjoying our town and facilities (except the potholes). To those heading back, our thanks for coming, playing golf and don’t forget you’re always welcome.

Last Wednesday’s betterball was sponsored by visitors from Wales ‘iacky da’, Dave and Janet Beckerly. Dave by now is back in the cold and wet, Janet is staying on, clever girl.

Steve Abramson and Butch Baily made a little profit by scoring 40 points to win by one from Laighn Moolman and local visitor Les Huddle with 39.
John Mills and TM Moodley were one further back on 38 with TM cleaning up by finding the hidden holes and rolling in the only 2 club.

Graham Brown and Deane Jooste who worked hard during the holidays were rewarded for their hard work by being presented with Stone Last. This was unfortunate as these two probably had the course and club on their minds and not on their game, but ‘alles wil reg kom’.
P&G Construction sponsored last Saturday’s betterball – thanks again to Paul and Gina Tedder. Again, in hot and humid conditions, more suitable for sea watching sipping cocktails and beer from our veranda, we still managed a decent field.

John Mills and TM went two better than Wednesday and won with 40 points beating Wednesday’s sponsor Dave Beckerly and Tony Moore into second with 39.
Also on 39 losing the count out were Laighn Moolman and Les Huddle, also by now back in Joburg.
Nearest the pins went to John Mills 5th, Deane Jooste 10th and Org Viviers took 17. Plenty of two clubs going to John Mills, Deane Jooste, Hilton McAuliffe, Tony Moore and Brian Richards, Johnny Bezuidenhout and Boet Ewald managed the Stone Last.

Despite a good field, the pub afterwards was a little sparse. The captain, after playing his game has to sort out the winners, etc. and conduct prizegiving and club news. It’s only common decency to support the captain, committee and the winners after a game, so please stay a little longer and enjoy some camaraderie.

Halfway Toyota is sponsoring this Saturday’s combined Stableford – choose your partner well.

Flyer’s footnote: When hitting into the green have you noticed that your ball usually finishes where the hole was last week?
