Baker is Margate CC champion

There were some war stories after two days of thrashing wind.

Sean Baker won the strokeplay club championships at Margate Country Club for the fourth time, this on a weekend where the wind sent scores spiralling.

The end result was that the scoreboard did not look pretty, but that’s seldom the purpose of a tournament of this nature.
Sean had two rounds of 77 for a 36 hole score of 154.

His round on the Saturday comprised 16 pars, one bogey and a quadruple bogey on the 12th. He also had a quadruple bogey on Sunday but threw in a few more birdies.

Runner-up was Koos Jacobs, on 161, with rounds of 86 and 75. He had a back nine on Saturday that he will want to erase from his memory.

However, we will record it here in the event he ever needs it (reverse psychology style) to inspire himself in the future.

The B division champion was teenager Edward Bense, aged 16, on 165. He attends Creston College. It’s good to see some youngsters coming through the ranks.

C division champion was Kevin Oxenham on 63 points, edging out Len Wilmans by a single point.
Overall nett winner on Saturday was Graeme Massam on 69, with Poen Olivier next on 74.
