Shoreline Challenge kicks-off in May

Those who complete all eight legs of the event will be rewarded with a Shoreline Challenge 2024 finisher T-shirt.

The Shoreline Challenge is an annual South Coast community event organised by the Mzimkhulu Honorary Officers (HO).

The challenge is to walk from Port Shepstone to Port Edward along the beach for most of the way.

It is broken down into eight different walks of between 5km to 7km, which is held on a Sunday over the course of four months from May to August.

A breakdown of the dates is listed below:

May 5: Oslo Beach to Shelly Beach – 5.5km

May 26: Shelly Beach to Manaba Beach – 6.7km

June 9: Manaba beach to Ramsgate beach – 5.5km

June 23: Ramsgate beach to Southbroom beach – 5.4km

July 7: Southbroom beach to Mpenjati – 6.95km

July 21: Mpenjati to Munster beach – 5.4km

August 4: Munster beach to Port Edward beach – 5.4km

August 18: Port Edward beach to Mtamvuna River – 7km

Mzimkhulu HOs are partnering with Boogie Babes and the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) during this year’s Shoreline Challenge.

Boogie Babes will join the walks and focus on the beach clean-up.

The NSRI will host two of the start and finish points where they will be selling breakfast and drinks.

Other local partners will be providing security, medical support, and logistic support over the course of the eight events.

An entry fee of R50 will cover your participation each Sunday.

Those who complete all eight legs of the event will be rewarded with a Shoreline Challenge 2024 finisher T-shirt, which will give you bragging rights for at least a year.

The Mzimkhulu HOs encourage companies and community groups to take up the challenge, clean up the beaches, learn fascinating facts about the beautiful coastline, and enjoy a Sunday morning stroll along the beach.
