Let’s play Thunee

Thunee is a popular trick-taking card game which originated in Durban.

Players who sign up for the Thunee Classic Challenge at the Wild Coast Sun Hotel and Casino Resort on Saturday, June 1, stand a chance to win a share of over R30 000 in cash and prizes.

Some 200 Thunee gurus are set to take part in the tournament, which attracts players from Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town, Pietermaritzburg, Ladysmith and Richards Bay, as well as local players.

Thunee is a popular trick-taking card game which originated in Durban. It is believed that the game was developed by indentured Indian labourers.

The cost is R200 per team; entrants must pre-book and pay in full. Bookings are open, and entries close on May 29.
