Shad caught despite season being closed
Shad season in South Africa is closed from October 1 until November 30.
Although shad season is closed, fishermen have not obeyed the bylaws and have been seen reeling the fish in.
Reports have surfaced that fishermen have been seen catching shad on Margate Pier, Sea Park and at the Block in Port Shepstone.
Shad season in South Africa is closed from October 1 until November 30.
This seasonal ban aims to protect the shad during its peak breeding season, and it has been in effect since April 2005 and has proven valuable in maintaining shad stocks.
In other news, fishermen reported a decent number of bream being caught at Southport and Ramsgate last week.
Catches were also reported from the Mzimkhulu River. According to Eckhardt Potgieter, some caught king fish, garrick, korb and tiger prawns.
Well done to Wouter van der Merwe, who caught his first brusher with the assistance of Eckhardt on Monday this week.
