‘Can we have a hole-in-one?’ No problem
There has been much activity at the club during the holidays so far.
Any hole-in-one is special, but when it’s requested by your aunt in Brisbane, Australia, and you deliver, then it’s a little extra special.
That’s what Cameron Olivant did in the Wozani Berg Gasoline Par 3 competition at Port Shepstone Country Club last Sunday afternoon.
His mom, Robyn’s sister, Pat, had written on the family WhatsApp group: ‘Can we have a hole-in-one please these holidays’.
Cameron gave up on the opportunity to play with his two uncles at Southbroom, instead teeing it up with Chris du Plessis.
He duly delivered, holing a gap wedge from 95m into the wind on the 18th and winning the Makmoer Trophy.

Unfortunately, it’s not an official ace, but a genuine one can’t be far away.
The actual comp was won by Atish and Niren Ghingai on 40.125 points.
Runners-up were Leon le Roux and Rudi Coetzee on 34.37 points.
In third place were Kaya and Fezeka Manona on 34.3 points.
Cam and Chris ended up in fifth place.
Nearest to the pins were Kaya Manona (3rd), Graham Fabricius (9th), Atish Ghingai (16th) and Cameron Olivant (18th – Makmoer Trophy for a hole-in-one).
Nearest for two were Atish Ghingai (7th) and Savir Ghingai (13th).
In other news, Gavin van Wyk won the Bates Motors Meat competition on 43 points last Wednesday, by three from Morris Moodley on 40 points. In third place on 38 points was Theo van Rooyen.
The club hosted Menlo Park school athletes from Pretoria last Thursday.
They had a quick warm-up on the cricket pitch before they started their run on the 18th fairway.
They had an absolute blast running the course and gave members a ‘practice run’ for the Night Run/Walk.

Thanks were extended to Howard and Wynona Crouch for setting up the course for the runners and for organising this event.
The Van Zyl, Retief Inc. Business Day last Friday was won on 92 points by Gavin van Wyk, Bruce Holmes, Allan Rowley and Ian Stewart on 92 points.
Runners-up on 87 points were Howard Crouch, Jimmy Adamson, Sanjay Singh and Rob Calder.

In third place on 85 points were Terry Kotze, Sandi Burger, Paul Bunge and Theo van Rooyen.
The South Coast Hospice golf day last Saturday was won by Paul Geoffery and Colin Paul on 49 points.
One point behind were Hennie Venter and Org Nieuwoudt on 48 points.
Nearest the pins were Allan Rowley (5th), George Nagel (8th), Sandi Burger (14th) and Johan Neetling (17th).
Pledges were made to South Coast Hospice, namely Pro-Vision (R10 000), and players from Wozani Par 3 comp (R3500).
The club also held a fundraising putting and chipping competition with the Wozani Par 3 players, which pledged more funds.
