Interzone triumph for Southern KZN golf

The team had it somewhat easier than expected.

The Interzone shield is back in familiar territory, with the Southern KZN golf team reclaiming it with a comprehensive win at the annual tournament.

It was held at Kokstad Golf Club, looking the best it has in years, with Southern KZN securing a full house of points.

There were a few moments where not all the players had everything their own way, but in the end, it was comfortable enough for captain Jean-Marc Bouic’s charges.

The Friday strokeplay saw the team win both the morning and afternoon rounds.
Individual scores were as follows: Koos Jacobs 75 and 72, Jan McDermott 72 and 75, Jean-Marc Bouic 77 and 72, Gavin Sole 73 and 78, Graham Sole 77 and 78, Cameron Olivant 79 and 79, Jan Nqoko 78 and 82, Cyprian Xolo 83 and 78.

Then things moved across to the matchplay, where Southern KZN continued their dominant form.
On Saturday, they beat Zululand 5-3, beat a depleted Ilembe team Ilembe 6-2 and edged out hosts East Griqualand 5.5-2.5.

By then, it was all over, and they could celebrate on Saturday night, with only Northern KZN to come on Sunday morning.

They rounded things off in style with an emphatic 7-1 win.

The KZN team to play in the South African Country Districts tournament later this year will be chosen closer to the time, possibly in August.
