Umdoni golfers clinch league thriller

Umdoni Park got their Southern KZN Handicap League season off to a solid start with a thrilling win 6,5-5,5 win over Selborne Park last Sunday.

It all came down to the last hole, with Koos Jacobs securing a half against Jacques Kruger to get the victory.

Earlier, in the betterball, Umdoni took a 3-1 lead.

Jordan Troughton and Brendon Allison lost to Andrew Sharp and Braam Stiglingh 3/2.

Leo Pillay and Revashan Naidoo beat Adrian van Vuuren and Tony Outram 1-up.

Koos Jacobs and Steve Swain beat Marno Langeveldt and Tiaan Bekker 1-up.

Jan McDermott and Jacques Kirstein beat Darryl Herman and Jacques Kruger 3/2.

Then it was time for the singles, with Umdoni scraping together the 3,5 points needed for the overall win.

Allison lost to Stiglingh 4/3 and Swain beat Sharp 1-up.

Naidoo lost to Outram 3/1 and Pillay lost to Van Vuuren 1-down.

Kirstein beat Bekker 3/2 and Troughton beat Langeveldt by the same margin.

Jacobs halved with Kruger and McDermott lost to Herman 3/2.

In the other game, defending champions surged back in the singles to beat Margate CC 7,5-4,5.

Margate took the betterball 3-1.

Simon Shusha and Kevin Feinberg beat Carlos Pereira and Lourens Steenkamp.

Werner Duggan and Andre Attfield lost to John Hopley and Johan Stoltz.

Grant Richards and Grantie Richards lost to Conrad Boonzaier and Poen Olivier.

Cyprian Xolo and Jan Nqoko lost to Rupert Niebuhr and Kevin Oxenham.

In the singles it was a far better situation for Southbroom, dominating 6,5-,1,5.

Shusha lost to Pereira 5/4 and Feinberg beat Steenkamp 6/5.
Attfield beat Hopley 6/5 and Duggan beat Stoltz 1-up.

Richards jnr beat Boonzaier 2-up and Richards snr beat Olivier 1-up.
Nqoko beat Oxenham 5/4 and Xolo halved with Niebuhr.

Port Shepstone had a bye.
