If Charles Stander thinks someone has cycling potential, then perhaps it should be taken seriously.
That’s the case with young Heimin ‘Mannetjie’ Pienaar (10), who has shown rapid improvement in MTB riding, so much so that he won the KZN Cycle Lab School Series in the nipper boys age group.
His start in the first event of four was anything but spectacular, placed at the back of the field as it was his first ever race.
Undeterred, he shot through the field to finish seventh.
Thereafter, he started races in the front row and blitzed his way to three successive victories.
He also won the wheelie competition, held separately for some fun – where a prize went to the boy who could wheelie for the longest.
This all means that he has earned a spot in the school series national finals, to be held in Tzaneen from October 10 to 12.
However, he needs some financial support to make the trip possible, around R11 000.
With this in mind, Mandie Stander has organised a raffle with two prizes – a weekend at Lake Eland, and a new pair of cycling shoes from Bobby’s Cycles.
Only 100 tickets will be sold. To buy a ticket, contact Mandie on 079 4937499.
