South African Country Districts golf a learning experience for Southbroom caddy

The team only managed one win, offset by three losses.

Golfer Jan Nqoko did himself proud on debut at the recent South African Country Districts golf tournament held at Kameeldoring Golf Club in Mokopane, Limpopo.

He was part of the eight-man KZN team that did battle in this prestigious tournament.

Jan is from Gcilima and works as a caddy at Southbroom Golf Club, where he is also a member.

Cameron Olivant, who is a member at Port Shepstone CC, was also part of the team. It was his second year playing the SACD tournament.

The other players were Walter Leibrandt (Zululand), Basha Pauls (East Griqualand), Andre Smit (Ilembe – captain), Lusanda Zondi (Northern KZN), Brad Bumberry (Ilembe) and Terence Hope (Ilembe). The team manager was Henk Booysen.

Unfortunately, they did not win the B-section as they had hoped and so will have to try again next year to gain promotion back into the A-section.

Winners were Boland, followed by hosts Limpopo, then Free State, with Border getting the dreaded wooden spoon.

The team only managed one win, offset by three losses.

The A-section was won by Mpumalanga, with Eastern Province relegated.

It was Jan’s first time playing at this level and he thoroughly enjoyed the occasion. He had some tough matches and overall, the tournament could be best described as a learning experience for him.
