Men’s choir raises funds for Hospice

The Durban Men's Choir has been in existence for 40 years.

NORWEGIAN Settlers’ Church was the venue for South Coast Hospice‘s fund-raiser, featuring the Durban Men’s Choir (DMC).

The DMC has been in existence for 40 years and has entertained and given much joy to many over the years.

The choir is a non-profit organisation that consists of 38 members (all amateurs) from all walks of life who have been sharing the gift of music all over South Africa and the world.

Since inception in 1971, about 450 men have passed through the ranks of the choir. There have been 17 accompanists (the current pianist having been with them for 12 of the 40 years), but only two musical directors.

Some 800 live concerts have been presented which equates to about 15 000 songs performed.

These have taken place from as far south as Cape Town to Cologne (Germany) in the north and from Richards Bay in the east to San Francisco in the west. There have been numerous TV performances and a total of nine albums produced.

The choir members give of their time and talents for the love of music and the enjoyment their singing gives to others.
