Comedy doctor returns to Wild Coast Sun

CATCH Riaad Moosa, uncensored and at his funniest, at the Wild Coast Sun Hotel and Casino Resort these holidays.

A medical doctor, writer, presenter, actor and above all an extremely funny, award-winning comedian, he will be back on stage at this popular local venue this Friday at 8.30pm and  Saturday, December 17, at 8pm. Although Riaad is best known as a stand-up comedian, he earned acclaim as an actor when he starred as Ahmed Kathrada in Anant Singh’s epic Oscar- and Golden Globe-nominated movie ‘Mandela – Long Walk to Freedom’.

He first flexed his comedic and dramatic acting muscles when he played the lead in the internationally acclaimed movie ‘Material’, which he co-wrote and which continues to inspire audiences all over South Africa. It has been enjoyed by film festival audiences across the world.

His inspiring performance in this movie earned Riaad the South African Film and Television Award (Safta) for Best Actor in 2013 and the film received the Best Film, Best Director and Best Supporting Actor Safta awards. ‘Doctor’s Orders’, his 2013 stand-up comedy tour, was one of the biggest tours of his career. More that 35 000 people from all over Africa saw this show.

His one-man shows, ‘Strictly Halaal’ and ‘For The Baracka’ were instant hits and both are now available on DVD. As well as appearing live on stage throughout South Africa, Riaad has featured in various television and film productions, including South Africa’s largest ever stand-up comedy show, ‘Laugh Out Loud’.

A writer and performer for SABC 1’s ‘Pure Monate Show’, he was pleased to see this achieve cult status among South Africa’s younger generation. He also featured in the Anant Singh and John Vlismas comedy-collective feature film, ‘Outrageous’ in 2009. You might have seen him as the regular presenter of a segment entitled ‘The Second Opinion – with Dr Riaad Moosa’ on the satirical news programme , ‘Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola’. In 2011, Riaad was awarded the ‘Comics Choice Award’ at the ‘First Annual South African Comic’s Choice Awards’.

One of the country’s most popular and acclaimed funnymen with a style all his own, Riaad is known as the comedy doctor and he certainly seems to have the remedy for the nation’s ills. A healthy dose of laughter is still the best medicine.
