‘Bring back lost lover’ spells – do they work?
Could this be real or is it a way to make a quick buck?
LAST month, South African Traditional Medicine Week was commemorated, and this highlighted just how much of an impact traditional medicine has had since being formalised.
As far as I know, there is no proven remedy to bring back a lost lover or make you wealthy overnight but some people really believe in these ‘superpowers’.

Everyday we see posters stuck all over our towns advertising the services of ‘Baba Shange’ or ‘Mama Mnguni’ who will share their powers – for a fee of course.

Do you want to bring back a lost lover? Do you want to win the lotto? While some people believe these are just money making schemes, other believe implicitly in the power these practitioners claim to have.

According to a member of the African National Healers Association, bogus traditional healers wanting to make a quick buck scam people using these posters whilst genuine healers are known within their communities and therefore do not need to advertise their skills.
