Providing a caring and safe environment for children for 110 years
Johannesburg Child Welfare (JCW) celebrated 110 years of existence with a fund-raising gala dinner at Thaba Eco Hotel on July 20.
JOHANNESBURG Child Welfare (JCW) celebrated 110 years of existence with a fund-raising gala dinner at Thaba Eco Hotel on July 20.
Aileen Langly (JCW board member) welcomed everyone before handing over to MC Bunny Majaja (91.9 Hot FM presenter) who introduced the Masibambisane children, who sang for the guests.
The first speaker, Leah Ngubane, spoke about being a child in foster care when she was much younger and the impact it has had on her life and then children from Othandweni treated the guests to a gumboot dance, showing off their wonderful dancing skills.
Motivational speaker Billy Selekane shared excerpts from his books, The Power of a Dream and From Barefoot to Snakeskin Shoes and said: “I believe each individual was born with greatness within. We should always endeavour to try and find the answer to the question ‘Why am I here’. We should endeavour to understand our higher calling, our reason for being. Greatness manifest once we are in flow with our purpose; we should contribute to life based on our purpose.
“The core of what I do is to inspire people to want to be the best they were born to be and to offer them the tools for achieving their altered status.”
Singer Auriol Hays, who hails from the Western Cape, paid tribute to some of the jazz greats and shared special moments of her life with the guests.
An auction was held to raise much-needed funds for JCW and then the birthday cake was cut by JCW’s CEO, Margot Davids.
As the evening was enjoyed, Xolani Nxumalo entertained with his songs and the evening carried on with dancing and socialising.
“Thank you to everyone for attending this momentous celebration. JCW has come such a long, long way and we will go on providing a caring and safe environment for our children,” said Davids.
