PIONEERS PARK: You, your colleagues and group of friends are invited to take part in this year’s Annual Dragon Boat Spring Festival on Sunday September 29, at Old Ouens Restaurant, Wemmer Pan, Pioneers Park.
It promises to be loads of fun for everyone involved and it’s an excellent opportunity for corporate team building. It is time to shake off the winter blues, get outdoors, and get to know your cubical neighbour.
Spectator atmosphere is expected to be exhilarating as you watch in anticipation the tight competition of your favourite team battle it out on the water. What makes this outdoor experience different from any other event is the opportunity to bring your family and friends on the day to support your chosen team while enjoying music, dog and/or horse shows, dancing, fire engine display, police and emergency services educational displays, food and merchandise stalls.
Young children can be kept busy in the entertainment area with jumping castle, face painting, sand art and other activities to keep the little inquisitive minds active and away from water’s danger.
The event raises funds for Breast Cancer Awareness. This year we honour Rachel Katz from Reach for Recovery who passed away earlier this year after a recurrence of her cancer. She was not only a survivor of breast cancer but will always be remembered as the vibrant woman who, over the past five years, actively and enthusiastically gathered breast cancer survivors to take part in this event. Her aim was not to win the race but to be a pillar for those fighting this pandemic.
* To enter a team the cost is R2 500 for 19 members (18 paddlers and a drummer).
* Teams need to arrive at 07:30 for registration.
* It is compulsory for all team to have at least one practice session.
* Designated team parking area on a first come basis.
* No alcohol allowed onto licensed premises – cash bar available from the restaurant.
* Any participant/s under the influence of alcohol will not be allowed to race.
This is an all day event. Gates open at 08:30 to late. Entrance fee is R10 per person and kids under 12 are free.
