Rand Water maintenance to leave parts of Johannesburg South without water
Residents in areas including South Hills, Naturena and Alan Manor are urged to store water ahead of Rand Water’s planned maintenance.
Rand Water is set to conduct major maintenance work on the bulk water supplier’s infrastructure from May 29 to June 2 (four days), followed by work on July 17, which will impact some of Johannesburg Water’s systems.
Johannesburg Water met with Rand Water on May 11, during which the bulk supplier provided detailed information and operational plans regarding the upcoming maintenance programme and its anticipated impact on affected systems.
The objective of the maintenance is to improve plant availability, reliability, and efficiency towards a more flexible system at the bulk supplier’s Vereeniging, Zuikerbosch, and Zwartkopjes systems.
According to Rand Water, this is the ideal time of year to carry out the planned maintenance work, as the period between May and July generally sees lower temperatures and reduced water demand.
Areas in the South that will be affected, among others, will include South Hills: Crown Gardens, Eagles Nest, Alan Manor, Aeroton, Forest Hill and Naturena.
Residents may experience no pressure to no water during the maintenance period. Johannesburg Water will arrange an alternative water supply at strategic points within the affected areas.
However, residents are encouraged to store water well in advance in preparation for the maintenance and avoid preparing on the eve of the planned maintenance, as this drains the system.
Engagements with ward councillors are also scheduled for this week to coordinate the distribution of alternative water supply within the affected areas.
Residents must note that after each maintenance, it will take several days for the system to fully recover and for the normal water supply to return.
