Turffontein’s vicious dogs put to sleep after attack

The SPCA will give the owner friendly dogs instead

TURFFONTEIN – Vicious dogs were put to sleep after attacking a 53-year-old woman walking in Kenny Street on the morning of February 13.

Teresa Szabadi was walking from the shops when one of the two dogs jumped her. She sustained wounds and bled from her legs after the dog continued to sink its teeth into her, cutting her skin open.

The two dogs were put to sleep by the Booysen SPCA after it was decided the dogs posed a threat to society. The owner of the dogs asked the SPCA to come and take the animals away. He was at work when the dogs attacked Teresa.

“The dogs came out of its home and ran towards her and started to bite her. Because it was not the first time these dogs attacked someone, people came to the scene and some started throwing small rocks on the roof of the owner of these dogs.

“By the time we arrived, you could see her bone. The woman who was in the house where the dogs lived refused to come out. She locked her door and closed her windows,” said Siyabonga Mbelengwa, who rushed to save Teresa when the animals jumped her.

“Her wounds were very deep, she needed to get stitches. These dogs have attacked people before. I hope these dogs did not have any diseases, because the woman started to vomit while she was bleeding from the wounds and when people came to assist her

“I hope that everyone who has vicious animals can make it a point to ensure that their animals are not a threat to society. Judging from the wounds, if she was a child, she could have died,” said ward 124 Clr, Sydney Radebe.

Teresa said she is currently talking to the owner of the dogs after he showed that he was concerned. The owner needed these animals because his house was once broken into; they protected the house from criminals.

Teresa was taken to hospital by a Netcare ambulance. She needed stitches for her deep wounds. People came to realise the dogs could kill children.
