WATCH: NCEDA Skills Development Centre lead the way in Southern Suburbs clean-up
The community clean-up and youth empowerment programme encouraged children to protect their environment and make positive choices for the future.
The Nceda Skills Development Centre, an NPO based in La Rochelle, recently partnered with the Greenhouse Sport Development and Rozzi Stars to host a community clean-up and youth empowerment event at the Southern Suburbs Recreation Centre.
Held on July 17, the initiative brought together community members and young people to clean and restore the sports field where many local children regularly play football.
The event was open to everyone in the Southern Suburbs and aimed to encourage residents to take pride in keeping their shared spaces clean and safe.
Several organisations and community groups took part in the initiative, including Greenhouse Sport Development, Rozzi Stars, and youth and children from the Apostolic Faith Church and Acts Church.

Their involvement highlighted the importance of working together to create a cleaner and safer community for young people.
After the clean-up, the children took part in an interactive life lessons session that focused on environmental care, leadership, teamwork and making positive choices.
The discussions encouraged them to understand the importance of looking after their surroundings while developing values that will help them become responsible members of their community. The children also received snack packs, bringing a fitting end to a day of learning.
The organisers said the initiative demonstrated that caring for the environment and investing in young people go hand in hand in building a healthier and more united Johannesburg South.
Nceda Skills Development Centre thanked all the organisations, volunteers and supporters who made the event possible, including event sponsor Portuguese Club House Grill, whose contribution helped ensure the day was a success.

The centre is committed to empowering young people through practical, skills-based training that prepares them for real-world opportunities.
Its programmes combine technical training with personal development, helping learners build confidence, gain valuable workplace skills and develop the knowledge needed to succeed in today’s economy.
Among its training programmes, Nceda offers practical appliance repair courses, teaching learners fault-finding, maintenance and troubleshooting skills that can lead to employment or self-employment opportunities.
