Queenshaven’s Craft Group knit beanies for children’s ministry in Uganda

Dylan Kinnear and Lara Janeke, who both attend St Paul’s Church in Mulbarton, recently went along to Queenshaven to collect over 200 knitted beanies from the Crafters Group, run by volunteer Diane Verwey.

QUEENSHAVEN – Dylan and Lara will be visiting Noah’s Ark Children’s Ministry, in Mukuno, Uganda in the December holidays and they want to take some Christmas gifts with them for the children.

Dylan’s mentioned to his grandmother, Yvonne Thompson, who lives at Queenshaven, about gifts for the children and she asked Diane if the ladies who are in the Crafters Group could knit beanies.

“We are thrilled to be collecting all these hand knitted beanies which we’ll be taking with us on our trip to Uganda. Thank you all so much for going the extra mile,” said Dylan and Lara, to the Crafters Group.

“It’s only taken the group three weeks to knit the beanies and the ladies have really enjoyed it,” said Diane. She added, “In this way we are giving back to the community and know a little bit of Queenshaven is going to Uganda. It’s great to know the beanies will be worn by the children at Noah’s Ark Children’s Ministry.”

"It's been such fin knitting the beanies, knowing they are going all the way to children in Uganda," said Diane.
