Elderly man bothered by TV license demands

A pensioner is asked to pay the whole TV License fee.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Frank Botese (72) has been receiving letters of demand and some threatening to take legal action him against from SABC TV License, but he does not owe money.

The elderly man from Glenanda submitted the necessary documents to prove he does not have to pay all the TV license fees, like other pensioners, but he receives letters demanding him to pay.

“I am a pensioner and not supposed to pay the entire fee. I am a good citizen, who pays all his debts. I pay the SABC, but they harass me. Is this the kind of messages they want to send out there?

“I went to to speak to them, but they do not listen. I told them I am a pensioner and cannot pay the whole fee, but I still receive letters of demand.

“I gave up on phoning them, because their phones just ring forever. It costs me petrol to go to them, so I want to see this fixed,” said Frank Botese, who does not want to be bothered.

SABC Spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago, who acted swiftly to direct Frank’s query to the relevant authorities, said: “As a pensioner Frank is not supposed to be asked to pay the whole fee. I have forwarded his plea to the department to help him. The matter will be resolved.”
