Bellavista youth to fly South’s flag in America

They need financial support, so that they can participate in Teen Summit 2014, build their technological skills, widen their horizons, and make a difference in the community.

BELLAVISTA – Bellavista Computer Clubhouse has been invited to participate in XXth Teen Summit 2014, bi-annual international conference in Boston, America.

Three young people (Bradwin Nettlingham, Amber Fourie and Caitlin Valentine) from the Clubhouse and an adult chaperone (Salome Kanyane) will join 250 other Computer Clubhouse members from around the world to learn about social issues and address them through technology.

Bellavista Computer Clubhouse is a creative and safe out-of-school learning environment, where young people work with adult mentors to explore their own ideas, develop skills, and build confidence in themselves through the use of technology.

They need financial support, so that they can participate in Teen Summit 2014, build their technological skills, widen their horizons, and make a difference in the community.

This will be the XXth Teen Summit held in Boston America, and the Bellavista Computer Clubhouse has been honoured with a third invitation this year to participate. At Teen Summit 2014, which will be held in late July, they will participate in a variety of workshops, projects, and team building activities and attend a college and career fair. They will stay on the campus of The Museum of Science University and experience college life.

“During the week-long event, we will have the opportunity to meet the international teens, and learn how they can use our technological skills to make a difference in our community,” said Salome Kanyane, Bellavista Clubhouse Coordinator.

From past Teen Summit experiences they know the Teen Summit helps youth become confident, self-motivated learners, expand their life skills, and inspire them to be global citizens, hence all Clubhouse members participate in the fund-raising effort. Summit participants also share their experience with the Clubhouse afterwards, so that the entire community benefits.

Their current challenges are: A small amount of spending money for transport (from airport to the university), postcards and souvenirs.

Should you be in a position to assist in this through sponsorship or donating to the Clubhouse, you can contact Salome Kanyane, Bellavista Clubhouse Coordinator, Social Development Department, City of Joburg, Salome325@gmail.com or 072 772 8265, alternatively visit https://www.computerclubhouse.org/content/teen-summit

They are leaving on Sunday July 27.
