Grade 12 maths and science revision kicks off
Students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds are tutored in maths and science
JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – eduCate, a grade 12 mathematics and science revision programme, kicked off it’s fourth year as a nationwide initiative in Johannesburg.
The launch of the eduCate’s fourth year as a programme that has successfully increased the performance of learners in maths and science was hosted at Gold Reef City on Friday August 8.
The event welcomed guests from numerous corporates sponsors, host DJ Sbu, MD of Primestars Marketing, Martin Sweet, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Ms Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi, learners who have benefited from the programme and the media.
The programme provides matric revision tutoring in math and science at cinemas throughout the country, in the run-up to the matric exams.
eduCate targets learners from disadvantaged backgrounds and aims to address the insecurities they might have as they prepare for their year-end exams, in doing so, contributing to an increase in the number of learners who excel in these subjects.
The collaboration between the corporate sponsors, the Department of Basic Education and the Department of Science and Technology has proven to be a successful public and private partnership in the past, with over 156 000 seats having been occupied by aspiring grade 12 learners wishing to improve their chances of gaining the results required to qualify to study at tertiary institutions.
Martin Sweet, Managing Director said: “As facilitators of the “eduCate” initiative, Primestars Marketing is extremely proud to be involved in this Matric revision programme, especially as we have met and talked to a host of learners who have directly benefitted from this initiative.”
Recognising the need to invest in future business leaders, Capitec, BHP Billton, Samsung, Telkom Mobile, the Department of Basic Education, Studietrust, The Event Production Company, Primestars Marketing and Tsogo Sun have partnered to form eduCate.
