Fondue accident burns claims seven-year-old
Arno van Greunen suffered 45% burns on his body and his organs collapsed.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – Seven-year-old Arno van Greunen wast burned walking near his father, Schalk, when a firelighter gel for a fondue exploded in his father’s hands.
SAPA reported that Arno van Greunen died in hospital at 05:00 on Monday January 19, ahead of a planned skin transplant operation.
Arno van Greunen had suffered 45 per cent burns across his body during the accident. The Hero Burn Foundation, which had been supporting the family, said his organs collapsed.
His mother Bernadine posted on Facebook: “Our Arno became a little angel this morning,” according to the Afrikaans daily newspaper Beeld.
Arno van Greunen was a pupil at Voorwaarts Primary School in Meyerton. School Principal, Rudi Steenkamp told News24 that it is extremely painful and a huge blow for the school.
