Obstacle on N12 west causes accident

A steel car bumper was the cause of an accident on the N12 west highway on Tuesday morning April 14 at about 09:30.

OAKDENE – According to Ryan Tuininga who was travelling on the highway, just before the Kliprivier Drive off-ramp, “I saw something on the highway and the double cab in front of me swerved to miss it but then hit the central barrier wall. There was no way I could avoid it though and I hit it.”

It emerged another vehicle then hit the steel bumper sending it up into the air where it then hit another vehicle, smashing the driver’s side window. “I got a hell of a fright and sustained a cut to my hand,” said the driver of the red Peugeot.

Emer-G-Med attended the accident scene, which resulted in one person sustaining a neck injury and being taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) were also on the scene.

The vehicles which crashed were quickly removed to the side of the highway to keep the traffic flowing.

“This highway is notorious for accidents. Last week saw two accidents happening in this vicinity,” said a driver of one of the vehicles involved in the accident.
