RIETVLEI – The suspects were driving a recent model silver Mercedes and apparently followed the woman, who was driving a burgundy colour Range Rover Evoque, registration DD90VPGP, into the grounds.
Once she had stopped outside the school in the parking bays, the suspects apprehended her, taking the car keys, and drove off. No gun shots were fired and no children were involved. The mother and passenger were left traumatised after the hijacking.
Rietvlei gate guards did close the gates but were threatened and told to stand back while the suspects opened them.
It’s believed the suspects sped off towards Alberton. The car was recovered at Jackson Dam, Brackenhurst, very shortly after the incident.
Both the school and Rietvlei Zoo Farm have armed response and they arrived shortly after the incident. According to police, this silver Mercedes has been involved in other hijackings in and around Alberton.
No arrests have been made.
