Water leak at JHB water

Johannesburg Water said it learnt that the leak was ground water.

AFTER receiving complaints from numerous residents who were concerned about leaking water that had been running down Side Road, flowing from the entrance of Johannesburg Water’s Southdale depot, the COURIER was informed that investigations were done and revealed that the leak was ground water.

A disappointed resident, Abie Watson, informed the COURIER that: “The water has been running from under their driveway paving into the street, for more than four weeks. The very same people that should maintain our infrastructure, can’t even repair their own leaks. The weeds on the side of the road are having a royal time.”

After taking the matter to Johannesburg Water, Tidimalo Chuene (Marketing and Communications Manager), later said: “Please note that we are aware of the water leak at the Johannesburg Water Southdale depot. An investigation was conducted, only to discover that it is ground water – which resulted in us outsourcing the work to a private contractor via an RFQ process. Contractors were called in and quotes were submitted to our supply chain management. All we were waiting for, is for the order from our supply chain before the contractor can start with the work on site.”
