
More than 40 people were arrested over the weekend, police said.
The 44 arrests were for various crimes, said Moffat View police spokesperson Constable Mikateko Bila.
The arrests were as follows:
– Eight people were arrested for assault and another five for intent to commit grievous bodily harm.
– A man was arrested for business burglary.
– Attempted theft of a motor vehicle – one arrest.
– Two people were arrested for domestic violence.
– One person was arrested for contempt of court.
– One person was arrested for selling liquor without a licence.
– Driving under the influence of alcohol – 12 people arrested.
– House break-in and theft saw one arrest.
– There was one arrest for malicious damage to property and one for intimidation.
– Possession of dagga – three arrests.
– Possession of suspected stolen property and possession of stolen motor vehicle – one person was arrested for each transgression.
– There were two arrests for shoplifting, one for theft, one for theft of motor vehicle and one arrest for resisting arrest.
Bila said all suspects were expected to appear in court this week.
