KENILWORTH High School is one of the best performing high schools in South though even though it has limited resources.
Its principal, Jabulani Radebe and SGB chairperson, Rejoice Soqaka welcomed the COURIER into their premises on September 11, to thank the Gauteng Department of Education for their efforts to make the school better.

One milestone reached is the school’s feeding scheme where all the learners are welcomed to benefit from it. “Through the help of the government, all 600 learners are able to eat daily. Also, thank you to the SGB and Ward 124 Clr Mongameli Myameni for their support. Every day our staff cook healthy food for the learners including a fruit of the day. We know geographically where we are, some of the learners need this food that we are providing at the school.

“We are also grateful for the newly installed toilets; the Department of Education really cares about the hygiene of the learners. These toilets are also disabled person friendly,” he said.
He also mentioned that his staff and Grade 12 learners are optimistic to make Kenilworth High School proud again by obtaining 100 per cent this year as it was the case in the previous two years. “That is why we are going to a camp from October 2 to 6, to prepare thoroughly. There, classes will start from 8am to 10pm. This is our own programme where we want to sharpen our Grade 12s,” explained the principal.

SGB chairperson, Rejoice Soqaka congratulated the principal on his recent tours among others Dubai and Harvard Graduate School of Education. “Harvard acknowledges the principal for participating at the Family Engagement Education, creating effective home and school partnerships for student success. During his visit abroad he also attended the professional development programme.
“Although we appreciate all the contributions made to the school, our school still needs school transport to ferry learners to various destinations. Also, our hall is still incomplete. We do fund-raising however it is not enough,” she said.
Ward 124 Clr Mongameli Myameni said the community needs to adopt the school. “We are proud of this school as it is one of the best performing schools in my ward. Our involvement in the community in terms of resources like transport and the completion of their hall will help this school to perform even better academically. So we must protect it from social ills and intensify security because we do not want any negativity around this school,” he said.
