Readers air their views on workplace abuse

This is what they had to say...

After the COURIER received a tip-off about the ill-treatment of employees by employers in a factory in the South, our reporters took to the street to ask the community for their take on the issue of ill-treatment at work.

SIBONGISENI MAHLABA: “They must go to jail, especially if there is evidence of ill-treatment. Department of Labour must also intervene in such instances. The law must take its course.”
XULU SINDI: “They should go to prison for breaking the law. No one must be exploited in the name of the profit. There must be a mutual respect between the employees and the employer.”
PRECIOUS DUBE: “Everyone deserves a second chance, especially if they are doing good. Though I agree with the notion that they should be punished for their deeds.”
JERRY DUBE: “If you break the law you must suffer the consequences. Our people suffer because they do not know their rights. Let’s educate ourselves in labour laws.”
