Portuguese people in Ward 56 and 57 celebrate their heritage

It was attended by dignitaries, the Portuguese ambassador to South Africa AMR Freire and the deputy director general of the transport department, Gilberto Martins.

WARDS 56 and 57 councillors Michael Crichton and Faeeza Chame attended an early Christmas celebration hosted by the Portuguese society on November 11.

In addition, the historic heritage and origin of Portuguese people was commemorated and the charitable work that the society does was commended.

Crichton said: “It was really a privilege for me and my colleague Chame to be invited to this wonderful event. The people of Portuguese descent are part of the communities in our wards and they have a proud history in South Africa!

“Chame and I would like to thank the Portuguese society for all the charity work they do in our communities and we look forward to working closely with them in the future.”
