Rape survivor is celebrated as she turns five

The councillor thanked all those who contributed to help make a success of the little princess’ birthday special.

THE then four-year-old toddler from Turffontein who was raped on October 20 turned five on November 11.

Ward 55 Clr Rashieda Landis has been supporting the family since their harrowing ordeal. To restore the little girl’s dignity and help her feel special on her birthday, Landis arranged a birthday party. Being the very first birthday party the little girl has experienced, her parents were overjoyed by the smile they witnessed for the first time on her face since the incident.

Children have the right to be loved, cared for, celebrated and protected from all harm. “It was an honour to give this precious five-year-old a little bit of sparkle in her life, especially with what she has been through over the past few weeks. A close friend of her mother said she hasn’t smiled in three weeks but on Saturday she laughed out loud,” said Landis.

The councillor thanked all those who contributed to help make a success of the little princess’ birthday special.
