WATCH: Founder of weight-loss programme, Mary Holroyd visits groups
“It’s the only weight-loss organisation to be named an endorsement entity by the Department of Health.”
CHAIRPERSON and founder of Weigh-Less Mary Holroyd visited a group event for Weigh-Less on May 5 which was held at the Nederduitsch Hervormde Kerk in Kibler Park.
Groups from Johannesburg South met to listen to Mary and other guest speakers from Weigh-Less who spoke about how they managed to lose weight and reach their goal weight.
Mary founded Weigh-Less in 1970 with just a bathroom scale and a R10 note to pay for printing and advertising. Weigh-Less has been changing the lives of South Africans for the better for over 40 years and she said Weigh-Less has established itself as the nation’s number one health and weight management organisation.

“It’s the only weight-loss organisation to be named an endorsement entity by the Department of Health and strives to get every person who signs up to their goal weight, whatever it takes,” she said.
The six guest speakers, Angelique van der Westhuizen (lost 16kg), Jean Proenca (16.2kg), Bronwyn Daly (35.4kg), Leon Lubbe (lost 27kg), Daisy Mohlomi (lost 17kg) and Barbara Lewis (lost 23.4kg) all spoke about their ups and downs to reach their goal weights.
“However difficult it sometimes was, we just kept on. If we had a cheat day, we got back on our healthy eating plan the next day and never gave up,” they all agreed.
