Unattended cables pose a threat to Turffontein residents
Residents fear that children playing in the street could be electrocuted by the cables.
ELECTRICITY cables have been lying unattended in Gertrude Street, Turffontein, for over a week even as residents battle with power outages.
Residents fear that children playing in the street could be electrocuted by the cables.
They are also frustrated that the street lights aren’t working and that no one from the metro has attended to the situation. They believe criminals will steal the cables.
Resident Carlos Pinto said: “We are not at ease knowing that there are cables lying in the road. Most of the residents have children and anything can happen to them.
“It seems as if the city wants someone to die before they do anything, and that is unacceptable. When I call City Power for assistance, the operator puts me on hold until my airtime runs out.
“Thugs will steal these cables and we, the residents of Gertrude Street, will suffer.”

When the COURIER contacted Keith Hayett of City Power, he said the matter had not been reported to him.
