TLC Children’s Home a recipient of sponsored garden

Fresh veggies for the TLC Children's Home.

AS part of a Mandela Day commemoration, TLC Children’s Home in Bronkhorstfontein were the recipients of the vegetable garden sponsored by the Ingersoll Rand. The company commissioned the newly formed non-profit organisation, African Women in Agriculture (AWiA), to assist to set up the garden.

AWiA chairperson Janice Scheckter said: “Our aim is to create smallholding farming enterprises where unemployed young women are supported to build real businesses. It’s no longer sufficient to create jobs. We need to help create entrepreneurs to continue to create jobs for other people.”

Mandela Day’s central focus was special. It enabled the team to create a vegetable garden to provide fresh vegetable to children’s home, also making it possible to train young farmers and potential entrepreneurs.

AWiA will continue to maintain the garden for TLC.
