WATCH VIDEOS: Ward 124 Clr Mongameli Mnyameni takes a stand

“We can only take back our ward if we work together, towards one goal – a great ward.” - Ward 124 Clr Mongameli Mnyameni.

WALKING or driving around in some parts of Ward 124 one will notice sections of negligence, vandalism, litter and any other problems that could have been prevented.

Problems such as dumping in the service lanes, people occupying neglected houses, people living on the streets (Stanton Street, Turffontein) and parks (next to Southern Suburb Bowling Club) and leaking water meters (corner of Alexandra and Donnelley streets). Some of these issues can be prevented if only people can act responsibly.

Ward 124 Clr Mongameli Mnyameni concurs with this and he urges people to own the ward and report all municipal issues to him or to relevant entities in time. Also, the pervasive hijacked houses in the area is really a thorn in the flesh.

“We can only take back our ward if we work together, towards one goal – a great ward. I am always ready to help people of the ward whenever problems arise. However, I need the help from the residents. If you see a mishap, report it to the authorities. People will often witness criminal activities but they will not call the police. Get that call to the authorities and get a reference number in order for me to escalate whatever the concern is,” he said.

He also explained that whenever there are homeless people who occupy empty houses or people living in the parks, the people in those streets can come together and petition to remove those people.

“The community will often complain that the intruders in those empty houses (11 Fanous Road, Southdale) steal from them. The community needs to stand up and say enough is enough. Working together rather than solo can yield positive results,” he said.

The councillor also assured the residents of Reuven Old Age Home that repairs are on the way. The senior citizens complained about leaking geysers, cracks in the windows, uncut trees and the wall that has not been replaced after it was floored by the heavy rains aeons ago.
