New training park provides opportunity for Turffontein residents to keep fit
Residents make use of the new park
RESIDENTS are grateful and overwhelmed about the new revamped linear training park at De Villiers Street in Turffontein.
Both children and adults keep themselves fit with the training equipment at the park. Parents are able to exercise with their children. Some residents go there just to relax and watch people exercise.
Previously the area looked like a dumping site.
“I enjoy coming here. It makes me feel proud in saying I reside in Turffontein. We as residents constantly complain about service delivery but now we have to applaud this great dead. I really appreciate what the councillor did for the community of Turffontein,” said resident Thando Ntuli.
Ward 124 councillor Mongameli Mnyameni told COURIER the park is one of the best-initiated projects done by the ANC.
“The park was done with the purpose of developing Ward 124, creating a safe park for children and lifestyle improvements. I am very humble and happy that we have completed such a beautiful project even if we did encounter some obstacles along the way but in the end, we prevailed,” said Mnyameni.
He went on to thank the community of Ward 124 for believing in him after all the inconvenience they had been subjected to while construction of the park was still in progress.
“There is still a lot of development that will be done in the ward, but one of the important factors this development has done is it has created a lot of employment and business opportunities.
There is also stormwater development in my ward that is happening around Turffontein Racecourse and around Main Street down to Eureka house,” he added.
