MMC visited Region F to monitor community development

Swimming pools will be up and running on the first day of spring.

NONHLANHLA Sifumba, a member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) provided an oversight visit in Region F areas on August 23.

The visit was to monitor the community development mainly on swimming pool projects around Region F. Her first stop was at the Joburg Swimming pool.

She was pleased with the preparations of the Joburg pool as it will be opened on September 1.

“We as the City of Joburg want to welcome spring with our pools ready for use. We urge residents to consider safety measures such as diving, pushing, running and no glass in pool or deck area at the pool,” said Sifumba.

Revamped swimming pools in region F are Forest Hill, Hofland Park, Crown Gardens, Rotunda Park, Turffontein, Pioneer Parks, Yeoville, Malvern, Moffat View Park and Southern Suburbs swimming pools.

Times for pools are to be Monday to Friday from 10am to 6pm and Saturday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm. Tariff ranges from R5 to R10 and for more information visit www.joburg.org.za

Crown Gardens will not be opened on September 1 but will be later in the 2018/2019 financial year. There is the possibility of Murray Park swimming pool to be demolished or converted into one of the recreational amenities while Pioneer Park, Rhodes Park and Robertsham are in the process of undergoing major upgrades.

“Apart from pools, sport and recreational facilities were also visited which were Rotunda Park and David Webster Multipurpose. These two facilities are among the ones revamped to bring pride to the community. They are well utilised and continue to offer sustainable programmes. To date, some of the youngsters from these facilities received regional, provincial and national sporting colours. Equally important are the libraries that communities use in the region,” Sifumba added.
