Homeless cause problems for Mews residents

What worries residents is that the substation is now a dirty, smelly and horrifying place.

HOMELESS people have invaded City Power’s substation on Landsborough Street in Southdale opposite Mews flats.

What worries residents is that the substation is now a dirty, smelly and horrifying place.

The caretaker of Mews, Sydney Nadar, told COURIER these homeless people are causing problems for residents as they broke one of the residents’ windows in an attempt to break in.

“I understand these people are homeless but living in the substation with all that dirt around is a health and fire hazard. It would be better if someone can help them to get a proper place to stay because they are making residents feel uncomfortable,” said Nadar.

Ward 124 Mongameli Mnyameni has escalated the matter to the city council to step in and remove the homeless people.

Nadar said the councillor has been helpful in trying to help residents with their concerns regarding the removal of the homeless.

“I was contacted to help and I have contacted City Power about the matter because these homeless people are causing a menace to residents. I am waiting for a response from City Power and City Council,” said Mnyameni.

Nadar wants the homeless people to be given a proper place to stay.
