Booysens residents finally raise their concerns to housing department
Ever since the establishment of the settlement, rubbish has been a problem for residents as people dump where and when they like.
WARD 124 councillor Mongameli Mnyameni took Isak Moabi, head of housing for Region F and officials from the office of MMC of Housing, to see the poor conditions residents of Booysens informal settlement live in on October 26.
Moabi was amazed by the fact that people have to get water from a burst pipe. Residents described the place as a health hazard and they have to put up with the smell that comes from dumped waste on a daily basis. A real worry to the residents is the rats breeding at due to the dirtiness of the settlement.

Mnyameni told COURIER the conditions the residents live in is unbearable, so he has consulted with Moabi to come up with a solution for the people.

“I have angered the MMC and Moabi so many times but today they have seen that human beings can’t stay in such conditions. They promised they will instal more standing taps and make sure stormwater is channelled into the right direction,” said Mnyameni.
Moabi was not available for comment.
