Mohatla Tseki gives Region F residents hope about RDP houses
The meeting, held on October 26, was attended by residents from Wards 55, 56, 57 and 124. Also in attendance was Ward 124 councillor Mongameli Mnyameni with his committee.
MOHATLA Tseki, the chairperson of the portfolio committee on human settlements and Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), visited Region F residents to table an oversight report of Department of Human Settlement for 2018 financial year in South Hills.
The meeting, held on October 26, was attended by residents from Wards 55, 56, 57 and 124. Also in attendance was Ward 124 councillor Mongameli Mnyameni with his committee.
The main purpose for the engagement was to address region F about the annual report on expenditures. The department indicated to residents that in 2017/2018 they were supposed to have built about 32 000 houses but were only able to build half of the number.
The department also allowed residents to raise their issues relating to the Department of Human Settlement. Residents welcomed the financial report but raised alarming issues. Residents wanted the department to explain why South African citizens residing in region F are homeless while others foreign nationals own RDP houses.
Tseki said the department will conduct an investigation regarding the matter.
“There are people who registered for RDP houses since 1996 and they are on our system so we as the department need to follow up to why they still don’t have RDPs.”
