Ormonde Shopping Centre spoils learners

Johannes Oosthuizen, a teacher, said the learners enjoyed the outing and he thanked all who made the event possible.

CHRISTMAS came early for The Hamlet learners in Turffontein when a handful of shops at Ormonde Shopping Centre met to spoil the learners with lunch, cold drinks, dessert, sweets and soccer balls on November 20.

Exactly 31 learners with their six teachers enjoyed the treats at Campos Kitchen. They were served quarter chicken with chips. For dessert, it was ice cream and a cupcake. Other shops involved are The Cake Whizz, Coffee Grounds, Spice Box and Tech World.

Johannes Oosthuizen, a teacher, said the learners enjoyed the outing and he thanked all who made the event possible.

“These are learners who need special attention. They are not like other normal children. People out there need to understand their situation and treat them with care. Although they are slow in other departments of life development, they are good with other skills, especially those involving their hands,” he said.

Each learner designed a bright and colourful Thank you card as a token of appreciation for the day.

Imraan Volkwy, centre management, said: “We jumped at the opportunity to give back to our community. We will always try and help wherever we can and we will do charity events as long as it benefits and helps people in our area.”
