Elderly enjoy Christmas lunch at recreation centre in South Hills

Lunch excites elderly.

MOTHER Sylvia, a community organisation which services senior citizens of Region F, hosted a Christmas lunch for its elderly members on November 24 at a recreation centre in South Hills.

The organisation was instigated in 1993 by Sylvia Govender with the sole purpose to provide a social platform for the elderly and disabled. Mother Sylvia has about three homes of which she caters for where members enjoy 30 free units of electricity social package if one is single and couples 60 free units of electricity every month.

The lunch was to celebrate Christmas and give away gifts to those who dedicated themselves to lending a hand to the organisation throughout the year. The elderly had the time of their lives as they danced to music played. Mother Sylvia conveyed her love to every member, saying they inspire her to continue doing good for others.

“I feel honoured to see elderly people enjoying themselves. All I want to see is elderly people smiling and having fun,” said Sylvia.
